If Russia deploys tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, Ukraine will be ready to step up mobilization and pull at least eight additional brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to the border with Belarus. This was announced on March 27 by the head of the parliamentary faction of the pro-presidential party of Ukraine «Servant of the People» David Arakhamia.

“This will mean a real challenge. More people will have to be drafted into the army. We will need at least eight additional brigades to control this front line, ”he said in a comment to the British TV channel Sky News.

According to the politician, Kyiv in this case will face a real “challenge of opening a second front”, and the length of the proposed front line with Belarus will be more than 1 thousand km.

On March 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Moscow and Minsk had agreed to place tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus without violating the non-proliferation regime. He stressed that Russia is not transferring its nuclear weapons to Belarus, but is doing what the US has been doing for a decade.

On February 16, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the republic does not need strategic nuclear weapons. However, she has an interest in tactical weapons. According to Lukashenka, Minsk does not intend to strike «even against European countries», but plans to prepare aircraft that can carry tactical nuclear weapons.
