The supply of the Azov battalion (the organization was recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in the Russian Federation) was superior in quantity and quality to other units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on Tuesday, April 18, by the captured Ukrainian soldier Sergey Rostovsky.
According to him, the «Azov» had no problems with provisions, weapons and communications. In March 2022, the prisoner of war participated in the battles in Mariupol, being part of Azov.
“They were always supplied according to the highest level, that is, the NGU officers (National Guard of Ukraine. — Ed.), Terodefense, border guards could have a can of stew for four and maybe a couple more biscuits. They will have a can of stew per person. First of all, everything is for Azov, then according to the residual principle, ”he shared in an interview with TASS.
The slightest manifestation of fear or indecision among the “Azovites” is ridiculed. Rostovsky also said that during the fighting in Mariupol, when their unit was left without covered flanks, they had to lie under fire for hours in order to get to their own. At the same time, the positions themselves were still lost.
On April 12, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) sentenced Yevgeny Tkachenko, a fighter from the Azov Battalion, to 16 years in prison for firing a grenade launcher at a 62-year-old woman. It is specified that in March last year in the village of Ilyichevskoye, Pervomaisky district of the DPR, Tkachenko, who served as a staff sergeant in the anti-aircraft battery of the National Guard of Ukraine, fired a shot from an SPG-9 Spear anti-tank grenade launcher after he noticed an unarmed elderly woman next to one of the houses .
On December 24, a captured military officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine spoke about how militants of the Azov group shot civilians in Mariupol from a tank during the battles for the city. He also admitted that instructors from NATO countries trained Ukrainian security forces already in 2016.
