The United States does not have a «magic pot» from which to draw assistance to Ukraine without a decision by Congress on additional funding. This was stated by State Department spokesman Matthew Miller at a briefing on December 19.

«We don’t have any magic pot ready to keep drawing from if Congress doesn’t pass this bill,» he said.

It is also reported that the United States has no other sources of funding for assistance to Ukraine, except for appropriations that are under congressional approval.

«We are absolutely ready to support additional financing for Ukraine. But we still have one package of assistance that we can provide to Ukraine, after which we will exhaust our ability to provide additional security assistance. I believe this question will be asked to the US Congress, to which we have made it clear that we want the additional funding requested by the president for Ukraine to be approved,» Miller added.

Earlier in the day, the American magazine The Time reported that Western countries had never planned to transfer powerful weapons to Kiev, with which the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) could gain an advantage in the combat zone with Russia. Expert Elliot Akerma said in this article that Western countries never planned to transfer powerful weapons to Kiev, with which the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) could gain an advantage in the combat zone with Russia. Ackerman believes that the White House’s strategy is slow approval, when the Armed Forces are provided with enough weapons to continue the conflict, but it will not be enough to achieve real success in the war zone.

Prior to that, on December 18, Bloomberg, citing a letter from Pentagon Controller Michael McCord to members of the American Congress, reported that the funds of the US Department of Defense, which go to replenish weapons that were sent to Ukraine, will end by December 30. It is noted that various weapons and equipment will be purchased for the remaining budget, which, according to Pentagon estimates, is estimated at $ 1.07 billion. Most of the amount — $ 635 million — will be spent on the purchase of missiles, $210 million — on spare 155-mm high-explosive M795 shells, fuses, caps and various gunpowder. There will also be other purchases.

On December 14, the White House coordinator for Strategic Communications, John Kirby, reproached the Republicans for leaving Ukraine without help, going on New Year’s holidays and not agreeing on a request for a new package of military assistance.
