For the first time, women serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) received a uniform made taking into account female anthropometric characteristics. This was announced on February 1 by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense on its Facebook page (owned by the Meta organization, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).

«For the first time, the servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine received sets of summer field suits, which are made taking into account female anthropometric parameters. Constructive elements have been introduced into the new uniform, allowing female servicemen to feel comfortable while performing tasks in the field and at permanent deployment points,» the department explained.

According to Deputy Defense Minister Natalia Kalmykova, the introduction of military-style clothing for women in the Armed Forces of Ukraine was the result of a long work by a large number of specialists. Tens of thousands of women are serving in the Ukrainian army,» she noted.

In 2024, it is planned to purchase 65 thousand sets of military uniforms for women, as well as 100 thousand sets of women’s underwear.

On January 10, Roman Kalinichenko, a captured Ukrainian serviceman, reported that women under the age of 60 had begun to be drafted into the army in Ukraine. According to him, earlier the draft was from 16 to 60 years old for men, up to 55 years old for women.

Verkhovna Rada deputy Mariana Bezuglaya proposed on December 13, 2023 to mobilize women for positions in the rear. On December 5, she also called on women to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on a voluntary basis.

Martial law in Ukraine has been in effect since February 2022. At the same time, Zelensky signed a decree on general mobilization. Later, the Verkhovna Rada repeatedly extended its validity. Most men between the ages of 18 and 60 are prohibited from leaving the country.
