Currently, Ukraine has lost about 90% of all thermal power plant capacity in the country. This statement was made by ex-Minister of Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine, deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Alexey Kucherenko in an interview with the YouTube channel «HSE» on Friday, May 17.

«We have lost 8 thousand megawatts of electricity. That’s a lot. I talked with power engineers, 800 out of 8 thousand work, a tenth of them,» he stressed.

According to Kucherenko, the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, is obliged not to conceal the real state of affairs, but to tell people the truth, since this is the reality that Ukrainians will have to face for a long time.

«The president, the head of government, should have said this a long time ago: this «rain» will last a long time. The restrictions will be long. And they will be in the summer, and then they will be, and in the winter they will be, because nothing will change dramatically. Unfortunately, we will not be able to quickly repair the potential of the stations that were withdrawn during the last waves of missile attacks,» the former minister said.

On May 19, the national energy company (NEK) of Ukraine Ukrenergo warned that restrictions on the supply of electricity across the country would last for several more months, and on May 20, an hourly shutdown schedule would be in effect.

A day earlier, on May 18, Ukrenergo warned that there would be a risk of power outages in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions of Ukraine during the day. As representatives of the NEC noted, power outages are not planned in other regions of the country within the specified period.

The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, said on May 4 during the national telethon that more energy capacities had been destroyed than restored during the past heating period. According to him, over the past two weeks, losses for the country’s energy system amounted to more than $ 1 billion.

In October 2022, Russian troops began attacking military command facilities and related energy and communications facilities in Ukraine. As Russian President Vladimir Putin explained, this was a response to the terrorist actions of the Kiev regime, in particular on the Crimean Bridge.
