The Ukrainian army suffers serious losses near Artemovsk (Ukrainian name — Bakhmut) in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). This was reported on February 6 by The New York Times.

“Ukrainian armed forces are exhausted after almost 12 months of fierce fighting. The troops say that they have tanks and artillery pieces, but both are not enough, and ammunition is much less than that of their opponents, ”the material says.

According to correspondents, in one of the front-line hospitals, the morgue is filled with the bodies of dead soldiers. In another hospital, the corridors are filled with stretchers full of wounded, and ambulances arrive all day. Doctors in hospitals are also talking about growing losses.

“In civilian life, you know that no matter how terrible your shift is, it will end sooner or later. Here you never know when it will end,” Miroslav Dubenko, a military surgeon at the hospital, told reporters.

Meanwhile, according to the publication, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the offensive. The Ukrainian military expects Russia to strike hard and Artyomovsk will most likely fall soon.

On the eve of the acting head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, said that Russian forces were entrenched in the north and east of Artemovsk. But in the eastern part, where the industrial zone is located, the fighting is still going on.

Before that, on February 3, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that the soldiers would not leave Artemivsk and would fight «as much as they could.» However, two days later, footage of the retreat of the Ukrainian military from the territory of Artemovsk appeared on the Internet. In the video, a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) reports that his and other units are suffering losses. He also said that the retreat had to be carried out in small groups.
