The Public Council of the Kherson region asked to hold a referendum on joining the Russian Federation//

The Public Council of the Kherson region appealed to the head of the region, Vladimir Saldo, with an initiative to immediately hold a referendum on recognizing the territory as a subject of the Russian Federation.

The corresponding statement was made on September 20. «We consider it more timely than ever to make a strong—willed decision on the immediate holding of a referendum on the entry of the Kherson region into the Russian Federation,» the Public Council said in a statement.

The OS believes that the initiative will be supported by local residents.

At the same time, it is noted that joining the Russian Federation will secure the territory of the region, «will open up opportunities on the way to recovery and return to a full-fledged peaceful life.»

Earlier in the day, the deputy head of the military-civil administration of the region, Kirill Stremousov, said that the regional authorities would make a statement on the issue of voting on joining Russia later on Tuesday. He stressed that Kherson remains with Russia forever, this is a fact that is attested.

On the eve of the Public Chambers (PC) of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) appealed to the heads of the republics Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik with requests to immediately hold referendums on joining Russia. As the chairman of the DPR OP Alexander Kofman pointed out, the time has come to erase the non-existent border between the two states, «as it has long been erased in the hearts of people,» and hold referendums on joining the Russian Federation.

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev noted that referendums in Donbass are important not only for the systemic protection of residents, but also for the restoration of historical justice. At the same time, the Commissioner for Children’s Rights under the President of the Russian Federation, Maria Lvova-Belova, expressed the opinion that there have been «no borders between the Russian Federation and Donbass for a long time.»

The special operation to protect Donbass, which the Russian leader announced on February 24, continues. The decision to hold it was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military, in connection with which the authorities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics turned to Moscow for help.
