Vandals made offensive inscriptions on the walls of an Orthodox church in Pisarevka and on the church fence in the village of Khoten.

On the eve of the Feast of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, two churches of the Sumy diocese of the UOC were attacked by vandals, the diocesan press service reports.

The diocesan administration received information about the committed acts of vandalism on the morning of October 14, 2020.

Unidentified malefactors inscribed black paint on the walls of the Intercession Church in the village of Pisarevka and on the fence of the Assumption Church in the village of Khoten, Sumy region.

“With regard to the committed act of vandalism, the Orthodox communities turned to law enforcement agencies and authorities,” the diocese said.

In connection with the incident, the Office of the Sumy Diocese of the UOC calls on believers to strengthen their vigilance «to prevent criminal encroachments and to ensure the protection of the legal rights and freedoms of Orthodox residents» of the region.
