Ombudsman for the protection of the state language Taras Kremen urged local councils to cancel the decision on the functioning of regional languages, and also appealed to the Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova to see to it.

 He announced this on the Ombudsman’s Facebook page.

«The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language Taras Kremen appealed to the newly elected deputies of a number of local councils about the need to cancel the decision on the functioning of regional languages, which is contrary to the current legislation of Ukraine, and sent a letter to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova to ensure the cancellation of the relevant decisions in court,» in the message.

According to him, despite the fact that the law «On the Foundations of State Language Policy» was recognized as unconstitutional in February 2018, the decision of individual regional, city, village and village councils in Dnipropetrovsk, Transcarpathian, Zaporizhzhya, Lugansk, Nikolaev, Odessa, Kherson and Chernivtsi regions have not yet been canceled.
