The Dnepropetrovsk District Administrative Court declared illegal and invalid the decision of the Dnepropetrovsk Regional Council to grant the Russian language the status of a regionallanguage.

This is evidenced by the court’s decision published in the Unified Register.

A meeting of the Dnipropetrovsk District Administrative Court on the language issue was held on August 13. The court considered the claim of the deputy head of the regional Prosecutor’s Office to the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, which contained a demand to cancel its decision No. 333-14 / VI of August 17, 2012. This decision granted the Russian language a regional status in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

The court granted the claim, arguing that the decision of the regional Council contradicts the current law on the state language and was introduced under the language law of Kolesnichenko-Kivalov, which was declared unconstitutional.

Earlier in July, the court revoked the status of the Russian language as a regional language in Mykolaiv, and in April, the court revoked the regional status of the Russian language in Zaporizhia region.

In addition, in the Kherson region, the status of the regional language was removed from the Russian language in 2018.
