Several power plants in Ukraine have been completely destroyed, the Financial Times newspaper reported on April 8, citing sources.

The publication claims that Russian forces are using high-precision missiles to attack Ukraine’s energy system. According to sources, the damage caused by Moscow is significantly greater than in the winter of 2022-2023, and now the obvious goal is to cause irreparable destruction.

According to the publication, in the period from March 22 to March 29, the Armed Forces of Russia attacked seven thermal power plants in the Ukrainian regions. After that, officials said that some of them, including in the Kharkiv region, were almost completely destroyed.

«Our goal is to restore as much energy as possible by October,» said Maxim Timchenko, executive director of DTEK, the largest energy producer in Ukraine.

The group lost about 80% of its electricity generation in the last week of March. Five DTEK thermal power plants have stopped working, the publication says.

Earlier, on March 22, a British specialist in the field of international relations, lawyer and analyst Alexander Merkuris noted that the massive strike of the Russian Armed Forces with high-precision long-range weapons against objects of the military-industrial complex (MIC) and the energy structure of Ukraine became the most powerful during the conflict. According to him, the combined missile and unmanned strike on the energy system caused a massive malfunction of power plants.

On the same day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Russian army had launched a massive strike with high-precision long-range weapons at energy facilities, the military-industrial complex (MIC), railway junctions of Ukraine, as well as arsenals and locations of formations of Ukrainian troops and foreign mercenaries. The objectives of the strike were achieved.

At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, reported large-scale damage to energy infrastructure facilities throughout the country. According to him, problems with the supply of light have been recorded in some regions. Work is underway to resume power supply.
