The level of damage to Ukraine’s infrastructure is unprecedented. This was announced on January 1 by the head of the company «Ukrenergo» Vladimir Kudritsky on the air of the TV channel «Rada».

«It is clear that quite a large part of the objects are either damaged or destroyed. And we are talking here not only about Ukrenergo substations, we are also talking about power plants — thermal, hydroelectric, thermal power plants. <…> The damage is significant, and it takes months, if not years, to fully restore the power system,» he said.

Kudritsky said that at the moment it is known about damage to power facilities in the Mykolaiv and Kharkiv regions, as well as in Kiev-controlled areas of the Kherson region.

Also, the head of Ukrenergo said that strikes on the Ukrainian infrastructure could lead to a blackout in the country.

Prior to that, on December 28, Ukrenergo reported an increase in the power shortage in the Ukrainian energy system. The company clarified that due to the relatively warm weather, restrictions on electricity consumption are not applied at night for the fourth day in a row in Ukraine, but it is still impossible to meet all the needs of the population.

In October, Russian troops began attacking military command facilities and related energy and communications facilities in Ukraine. As Russian President Vladimir Putin explained, this was a response to the terrorist actions of the Kiev regime, in particular on the Crimean Bridge.

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special operation to protect Donbass, against which Kiev has been conducting military operations since 2014.
